The more you lie, the more friends you lose. Kokichi Ouma has aknowledged that fact a long time ago, except that his lies are justified, to some extent. Because it's to protect everyone from his negative and crazy self.
And Shuichi never understood that. That specific day, life has made it clear for the purple boy : he's hated by it.
