The world was an unforgiving place. It was kill or be killed, Scavenge or starve. Much of humanity moved under the earth to escape the harsh world above. No "mole" wanted to live on the surface and no "ruffian" wanted to live underground. George gets thrown into the life of a Surface dweller, having nothing but the clothes on his back and the hope of finding his best friend alive. Dream had been born on the surface and raised in constant bloodshed. All he had to do was Beat kids, get food, please Mr J, and don't die. When he gets beaten by a newcomer, his world changed. The newcomer gives him freedom. And soon they both learn that they need each other to survive.(Slow burn probably soooooo yeah)

Dream struggles to fight off Nightmare who is taking over him, making him hurt those he loves and kill. At first he convinces himself he's being destructive and evil for George, so that George will never be in danger and could do what he wants but it is soon made clear Dream is not the one making the decisions over his own actions. Set as if Minecraft was real with canon lives. Occasional Sapnap POV and George POV. A lot of dialogue for the first chapters was taken from several streams but after that it is made up including the story. Songs are incorporated but don't need to be listened to, to read.
