"Hey dad?" the 16 year old brunette boy asked his father, walking into the living room. "Yeah, Gordon?” his father asked, looking up from his newspaper. The man took off his reading glasses as his son sat down on the opposite side as him on the couch, looking at him expectantly. “I was just wondering..” Gordon trailed off, sky blue eyes glancing at his twiddling thumbs. “Yes?” his father asked, folding his newspaper and bending over to set it on the coffee table. Obviously whatever Gordon wanted to ask was important, otherwise he wouldn’t be acting like this. “Well, I met this girl a few months ago and I really like her. Like, really like her. I don’t know what to do.” he told his father, sounding desperate for help.
His father scrunched his eyebrows together, “Why don’t you ask your friends? Ethan and Zach?” Gordon had asked his friends earlier for help, but they all told him just to ask her out. He couldn’t do that. “She is different.” he told has friends, but they didn’t understand.
“They don’t understand. She isn’t just like the other girls, she is different.” he told him, thinking about the girl. He only met Violet less than 3 months ago, but his feelings for her weren’t the same as his feelings for girls he dated in the past. His father shook his head, “How is she different?” His father was always afraid of the day this would happen. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone before.” Gordon lightly laughed, he thought he sounded like a girl in a sappy chick flick. “When did you know you loved mom?” he suddenly asked, looking at his father for the first time the whole conversation. His dad shook his head again, he couldn’t believe this was happening. He looked at Gordon, staring at him for a bit. He looked so much like her.
“Let’s take a walk to the cemetery. I’ll tell you on the way there.”
