Picture a world where everything is black and white until the day you meet your soulmate. Do you have it pictured? Great! Okay now here's the twist, if they die everything goes back to black and white. Then maybe when you see someone you start to see colours again. It's subtle like maybe a rose colour, the colour of their eyes the next time you see them.
That right there is the idea behind the story.
