The Dark Lord is growing stronger, a constant threat looming over the already-tense Hermione. With Harry and Ron searching for Horcruxes, the absolute last thing she needed was for her dorm to be invaded by a certain, less-than-welcome Slytherin. Being forced together for months made a change in dynamic inevitable.

Sooner or later, though, they both knew their time would reach its end. This arrangement was ephemeral - and its demise would be explosive.
