You offered your hand for the Captain to shake and he took it, giving you a small nod.
"I know we haven't met formally only in passing if I remember correctly, but I'm sorry for your loss," he said sympathetically. "I met Coulson, he seemed like a good man."
"He was," you nodded. "I don't know how much Director Fury has told you, but Agent Coulson was the main agent in liaison with SHIELD and the Avengers Initiative and well, since he's not around to take care of that anymore the duty seems to have fallen to me."
"I see," he nodded. "I guess that means we'll be getting to know each other pretty well,"
"Like you wouldn't believe, Captain," you gave him a small smile with a nod. "I'll be working mainly with you and Agent Romanoff so we should be seeing plenty of each other."
"Look forward to it, I'll see you around (L/N),"
"(Y/N),"
"What?" the Captain looked back at you confused.
"My name, my first name, it's (Y/N). I like it better."
"(Y/N)," he repeated, almost like he was testing it out to see what it would sound like coming out of his mouth. He scratched the back of his neck, looking down at the ground before making eye contact with you again. "Call me Steve."
