Mental illness is one of the worst explained and hardest to treat. You can never really win a battle with yourself. There's only survival. The road to recovery is long and not a path lit well by the dim light of society. And sometimes the first step requires a little push. ~ Since she was 14, Sky Johnson has one place where she felt she can let down her guard and let the world inside, just for a moment. This place is behind an old, red postbox, deep within the old Australian bush, under an old tree, near an old, abandoned scout shed. This is her place. Well, her and her overexcited 3 year old dog. When someone else finds her place, a determined someone who only wants to teach her to smile again, despite her attempts to push him away, he's the least of her problems. The government wants to buy the land on which her tree grows and clear the opening that she has called home for so many years. [feedback is HIGHLY appreciated. Suicidal

This is the story of an abused teenage girl, Maddie. Her need to die has become overwhelming and she is trying to find a way to help herself before she does something she may regret. The story is told from her point of view as she recalls all that has happened to her. Maybe telling her story will help her, maybe not. This isn't just any other sob story. This is more realistic. You may even find yourself comparing your life to Maddie's while reading this story. Disclosure: I wrote this as a 13-year-old and the writing is definitely not up to my current standards, but I feel as though changing what I have already written would take away from the emotion I put into this story at 13 years old. If you'd like an updated and more well-written version, please read my other story entitled "Remembering". TW/CW: domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation
