A birthday is supposed to be a jubilant event with the person being surrounded by friends and family to celebrate another year of life. This year was especially different for the main character.
He has to continue to face the reality of his situation and the mistakes of his past that continue to haunt him and follow him throughout the rest of his life. Coming to terms has never been easy and might not ever happen
He just wanted this moment to last forever.
