The main difference between a Virus and a Worm is that Virus needs human intervention to activate itself. While on the other hand, Worms are independent of any human intervention. They replicate themselves as soon as they breach your security.
Usually, viruses are attached to a file like any executable file or document. Once the source file is triggered, the virus becomes active and starts its process of what it has been programmed for.

On the contrary, a worm does not need any source file. It makes its duplicate copies and moves all the way through the network and infects everything.
