Arson. Flames everywhere, precious history spacing out hundreds of years, burning to ashes. My hometown, Arkrith, gone forever. The blistering heat engulfs me and the few remaining pieces of our history that I could gather. There's no choice left to run, but to where? Exits and entryways collapsing, I start to panic. I head toward the last exit I can see, the only exit out of safety and protection of our gods. Crouver.

It's a sweet and deep romance about two characters negotiating their feelings for each other while life is doing everything to tear them apart. The characters have such mature conversations and, there's no reliance on the miscommunication trope at all. I'm *obsessed.* If you enjoy intriguing fantasy novels with deep and thoughtful themes, check out 'The Gifts of Mortality' by @eleanorkennedy14 . It explores the concept of mortality and how it gives life meaning through the eyes of both gods and humans. The story follows Samil, the god of the Festivals and the Arts, who is shocked by the apathy of his fellow gods when a human terrorist group gains control over the Goddess of Death. Despite finding no support among his kind, he's determined to help the humans, which sets him down an interesting course. There are lots of great twists in this novel, and I also loved seeing how queerness was worked in throughout both the immortal and mortal realms. Samil is a sweet and refreshing character to root for who is determined to see the good in the world.Complete

Magic? Nope. Hidden towns? Definitely not. Sexy mentors? Well.... oh, go on then. Sounds like a bad acid trip, right, but it turns out there's a lot of things that have been hiding in plain sight. Faye was just minding her own business until she bumped into a group of strangers on a night out. They open her eyes up to a whole new world full of magic and take her to the place she is to call home from then on, the compound. There are compounds all over the world hidden from the regular human eye. When she arrives, her life is full of drama, trying to learn about her gifts, make new friends, and simply just stay alive. Her mentor is supposed to be there to help her through things, but will he make her life easier or more complicated? My guess is the latter, but he is so gorgeous that a little complication is a small sacrifice to make. Dane just wants to get left alone. Ever since losing his brother, he's not been quite the same. Faye is forced upon him, and he has to try and train the new girl with a smile on his face. Easier said than done...Complete
