This is a story of a princess, a tower, a prince, a lord, a thief, a pirate and a magician. 
However, with the princess being a former pirate and a recent thief, and the prince a man with a heart of ice that will do anything to achieve his goals, it is anything but a fairy-tale.

After escaping her father's tyranny at sixteen, the now twenty-two year old Emeline Willowcrown has turned into a confident young woman with a few powerful tricks up her sleeve. Living in hiding in the kingdom of Corenthis, she eases her guilt by helping its people instead of her own. 

Following an encounter with a mysterious young lord however, she is forced to return to the palace where she grew up, the one place that she vowed never to return to. 

There, she once again takes up her role as the Crown princess of the nation of Parthea, now with the added burden of a cunning prince from a rival nation watching her every move. 

Nearly suffocated by the memories her former home brings with it, she has to work overcome the guilt surrounding her mother's death and the anger she feels every time she faces her father, as this time around the stakes are higher than ever before.

This book has sexual reference and mentions of things that could possibly be triggering to some - e.g. young motherhood and loss of a parent. This work is usually split into two parts, but I have decided to take down the second part, and consider the first part, one book for now, so I can work on the second. When the second part/book has been finished, I'll decide whether I like it as one book or to reincorporate the rest of the book to make it one. Entered in the Wattys(2020)!
