Time is a very particular thing. Time Tony had with Stephen didn't last long after the doctors accident. Deja vu is said to be a past life, or something you recognize from old memories. Even so, every memory he has ever had was him being treated as inferior. 

Tony was on his own, and it's time he did something about it.
