Seventeen year old Penelope Walker. She lived with her parents Lucus and Chloe in Beverly Hills, California. Like most teenagers, Penelope went to school, she had friends and she led a nice life with a warm house and parents who loved her. But no one has an easy life free of trials and tribulations. Penelope has a rare disease known as Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a genetic disorder that occurs in skin cells and prevents a person from venturing out into the sun and can be lethal if he or she absorbs even a minimum amount of UV rays. She finds it hard to cope with her disease and tries her best to live her life. Her best friend Stephanie Cruz is the only one besides her parents who knows of her disease. She has never fallen in love, and she has never ventured out into the light. Figuratively speaking and literally speaking. Until a certain young man named Jason Edwards comes into her life. He shows her things she never experienced and sets her free of the fear that haunts her daily and becomes the light in her dark abyss.
