There were many things Valerie was afraid of.
She feared angry goddesses who would not stop at anything to get their children back. She feared hospitals and didn't dare to step in one unless she believed it was absolutely necessary. She feared her application to King's College would get rejected. She feared the new friends she was making could betray her. She feared something could happen to her aunt and she would have no one to lean onto. She feared the feelings that she was developing in her chest could drive a long time friend away.
Valerie feared many things, that didn't mean there wasn't more to be afraid of.

The questions that she has long dismissed as unimportant. Is this what she truly wants, to be solely fulfilled by everyone else depending on her for support? And where does she draw the line? This story touches on potentially triggering content, including the use of slurs, toxic family relationships, anxiety, anger, and death. She believed in hanging out with Jonathan in a secretive way only the two of them shared, she believed on the four of them sometimes hanging out after school. She believed in her aunt Moira, who sometimes went to travel to who knows where and returned with presents for her. She, did not believe in swords carefully kept away in the depths of caves waiting for fate to pick them up or men coming out of crystal cages to help.
