Soon after your eighteen's birthday, you get a tattoo on your wrist. Not just any tattoo: the name of your one true love. Your life only just begins when you get the mark and the rest of it must be dedicated to the search of your soul mate and to spend it with them. 
  Amalia doesn't agree with this. She's a free spirit. She wants to travel, meet people, live and love without following the path that seemed to be already traced for her. She wanted to make her own decisions, regardless to those small ink letters. 
  Who said you could only love once ? Who said it was an obligation to find your soul mate ?
  But that life she chose to live is not the easiest one, for Amalia was hard to love and she hardly ever loved anyone.
  
  A/N: I put the story under 'fanfiction' because it started off as a Michael Clifford fanfiction, yet it took another direction in the course of writing. It is now an original fiction - sorry for my readers who came for Michael in the first place - but it is still under 'fanfiction' because Michael is still in the story, and the other main male character is based off of an Attack on Titan character - though he only has very few common traits with the original character.

In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper. (So if you just kiss someone to kiss them then your tattoo won't glow) As for your soulmate dying, your tattoo turns black and shows a small picture of them with their name under.
