And then I tripped. I don't know what it was, or how, but my body slammed against the soaked surface of the ground and I felt my face scrape against rock. I bit back a shriek of pain. I just had to get home, that's all. I pushed myself off the ground and rid my hands of the wet muck they were covered in.
I bent down to pick up my board, which hadn't gone too far. When I saw it, I knew something was off. I didn't need to see it completely to know what. And that's when I let that shriek of fear escape my mouth.
