Adelaide Williams had a relatively normal life, living with her fraternal twin sister Abbey and their older brother, Cale. Things stayed constant until the fateful day when a drunk driver rammed right into their mom's car. The impact not only shattered 12-year old Cale's ribs, but impaled 10-year old Adelaide. Had it not been for a recent heart donation from a woman named Elizabeth Cady, Adelaide wouldn't have survived. 

Six years later, just before school starts after winter break, the family decided they needed a change in scenery, packing their bags and shipping themselves to Texas. Adelaide continues her junior year with her sister, thinking everything will be normal once she gets used to it.

But then she meets Dallen Cady. And her life is flipped upside down as the bad boy slowly finds his way under her skin. At first everything is all fine and dandy until the day she finds out that her heart had belonged to his dead mother.
