Within the confines of the colonial space station known as The Duran, citizens begin disappearing one by one. At first the missing persons were few, but gradually grew in concerning numbers. Report after report of missing individuals and claims from people who apparently seen the kidnapper. None of which were to be believed. Panic spread, and chaos subsequently followed. Station security could do little to stop looters from pilfering what they wanted, as they themselves were just as clueless as everyone else. Eventually becoming no different than any other gang.

The looting didn't matter, as disappearances continued regardless. It became evident that the station had been invaded by some sort of being, or perhaps multiple beings. Something that couldn't be fought. Those who remained took to hiding, cowering away from the threat. With everyone out for themselves, it was difficult to survive, but some managed. By the skin of their teeth, they kept going. To what end it was difficult to say, but they endeavored nonetheless.

A longing so intense it caused his heart to physically speed up uncontrollably. Following his businessman father from planet to planet, he spent ten long years searching for something, anything that would fill the void in his life. Nothing he found appeased the longing or filled the emptiness. Nothing, that is, until on the planet Casentell, far from his home world of Earth, Joshua met Larcin. Larcin was an alien from the planet Joong, a planet totally shrouded in mystery. Other than their physical appearance, which was the same as every other bipedal humanoid race in the universe, virtually nothing was known about them or the planet they came from. One crucial factor set them apart from every other race. They were the only race of people with the ability to navigate the starships that made interstellar travel possible. Without a Joong navigator at the helm, even the mightiest starship was stuck within the confines of its home solar systems. Larcin was one of these navigators. What could possibly draw these two men together? And what would be the consequences of this fateful meeting?

It would tear him apart, cell by cell, until he was unmade. His mind being transported away. --- So distantly far away there is a race that advanced to the point where they built dyson spheres to house their civilizations. In their continual expansion, they seeded galaxies with pods and connection satellites. Over time they upgraded their dyson spheres into matryoshka brain Cores. Imagine a computer powered by a star. Citizens of Cores no longer age once they upload their minds into the virtual living system of the Core. While they didn't age, most still choose to cycle through life and death though at a different scale of time compared to our lives. Citizens can visit other planets and live there as if they were on a "vacation". Mercury is Earth's hub connected to the closest Core and Earth is a remote vacation spot for wealthy citizens. When the main character was 10 he witnessed a citizen returning to the Core. The story continues 10 odd years later when he again witnesses a similar situation unfolding and manages to touch the person returning to the Core. This causes him to be swept up in the transfer as well and for his mind to join as a "Guest" user of the Core. As a Guest he has limited powers, a starting balance of zero cr or Citizen credits, and no idea how he can get home. He is the first human to ever become a Guest of a Core. Four women - a lawyer, a teacher, an athlete and a soldier - are abducted by four alien men. The aliens, far from being bug-eyed monsters, have 90% human DNA. Despite the circumstances, the women are fascinated by their captors. Particularly when they discover the men have taken time to learn everything about them: even down to filling the women's on-board wardrobes with their favourite labels! ("For an alien," says Amisha, "he certainly knows how to shop.") They also discover that the men have the power to connect with them at a deeper level. So much so that the women can experience - directly - what it is like to be a man! With amazing consequences. But danger threatens: not just the women, but mankind itself. On the aliens' home planet of Sacmis, a genetic disorder has resulted in male births massively exceeding female births. So much so that most men can never hope to have a relationship with a woman. Let alone sex. To save the planet from extinction, Sacmis has prepared a fleet of slaveships to abduct compatible women from Earth in large numbers, to be used purely for breeding purposes. Somehow, the four alien men and the four women have to stop them. © Adriana Nicolas 2016
