Dangerous Games
Grace Watson
The campus glowed with the last light of evening, and I hurried toward the library, arms full of case studies. Just another night of work - and coffee.
As I rounded a corner, my path was blocked by none other than Nash Dubois, campus flirt and walking headache, lounging against the doorway with that smug, annoyingly handsome smirk.
"Grace Watson," he drawled in that infuriatingly smooth French accent, glancing at my books. "Burning the midnight oil, as always?"
"And you're loitering, as always," I shot back, stepping to move past him. But, of course, he blocked my way again, grinning.
He tilted his head, eyes glinting. "Loitering? No, observing. Do you ever not have a book in your hand?"
I rolled my eyes. "Some of us have priorities, unlike those who drift through life playing music and... distracting people."
His smirk deepened, leaning in just a little. "Ah, so serious. It's almost tragic, really." He paused. "But you look cute when you're mad, chérie."
I felt my cheeks warm. "Save it for someone who cares, Dubois." I pushed past him, ignoring the smug glint in his eyes as he called after me.
"One day, Grace," he said, voice low and teasing, "you might just let someone see past that shield."
Ignoring the twist in my stomach, I shook my head and stepped into the library. Nash Dubois was nothing but trouble - a complication I had zero interest in. Or at least that's what I told myself, even as his words lingered in my mind.
