'It started out as a normal day at the academy, yet by lunchtime I had stroked Death's gates once again. It seems to have become my new 'normal'. I remember all those years the only thing I would wish for was, that I be chosen to join a secret society, from which my life would be full of mysticism, romance and occasional mortal peril. But even then I couldn't have imagined this. I should have been more careful with what I wished for. Because what they didn't tell me back then, was that the books don't always get it quite right. They leave out some of the terror, cruelty and broken hearts.
A sword is held to my throat and my component has me pinned to the wall. They told us not to use any of our powers in the tournaments, but I wasn't left with much of a choice. My component has eyes burning with a desire to kill. Seconds away from having to stay in the infirmary again, I raise my hand and command the earth to listen to me.
