Aeliana Karlsson was just a simple girl living in rural Minnesota. Until her father, Walter, passes away from lung cancer. Suddenly, people mispronouncing her name doesn't seem so bad. Aeliana learns that maybe lung cancer didn't take her father's life after all. Something - or someone - else did.

It doesn't help that she has an encounter with Brendan Dykstra, the old school quarterback. She uncovers a secret the other football players have been trying to keep hidden. Is that why he quit, to the dismay of his school and town? He thinks it might all blow over, but will it? What secret are he and the other football players hiding beside the one she found out, and will he have the strength to come clean?

Maybe that hometown has a few more secrets than they thought. Through heartache, sorrow, and mystery, Aeliana and Brendan figure out that lies are more common in a small town like theirs than they thought.
