"I DON'T CARE, I SHOULDN'T!" I couldn't control my sobbing. How could he affect me so much?  "That is clearly a lie, Katarina! If you didn't care, you wouldn't be crying to me about this, you wouldn't even be trying to convince yourself you don't care, and  you wouldn't be letting me get away with this!" "With what? What have YOU done wrong in this situation? It was all me!" "For this..." 

Katarina DeVille (pronounced Du-Vi-lay) is sick of school, achieving her top grades, her parents, of caring. She decides to throw it all away in a random burst of anger once she can't take it anymore. Should she care what happens to others, if no one cared for 15 years? Well, Katarina doesn't think so, even if what she'll do to everyone is worse. She becomes the new badass in school, making everyone cower.
Along comes Alex Connors, the new kid in school, who is instantly the guy everyone loves. He doesn't care about that though, he cares about Katarina. Everyone in school is just fake, but not Kat. She's just angry, and he wants to find out why. With good looks and brains that can match Katarina, if not more, it seems like he might be the only one who can.

Can he save Katarina before she detonates, or will she potentially cause mass destruction?

Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.
