Katarina DeVille (pronounced Du-Vi-lay) is sick of school, achieving her top grades, her parents, of caring. She decides to throw it all away in a random burst of anger once she can't take it anymore. Should she care what happens to others, if no one cared for 15 years? Well, Katarina doesn't think so, even if what she'll do to everyone is worse. She becomes the new badass in school, making everyone cower.
Along comes Alex Connors, the new kid in school, who is instantly the guy everyone loves. He doesn't care about that though, he cares about Katarina. Everyone in school is just fake, but not Kat. She's just angry, and he wants to find out why. With good looks and brains that can match Katarina, if not more, it seems like he might be the only one who can.

They decide to get him a tutor, but what they don't realize is they are setting their son up with the angel he's been wishing for. His tutor is a polite, sweet girl who doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Everyone is her friend, but she doesn't go out much. Just like everyone in the world, she has a chip on her shoulder that she's been trying the shake off since freshman year.
