"I'll come back for you Tom!" she said clinging to the taller boy with desperation.
"No you won't. You'll be too happy in your new rich life to concern yourself with the likes of me." He gently held her face wiping away the fallen tears; his stony facade came tumbling down, he could never control it when she was around.
"There's something evil in me, I can't describe it but I know you'v seen it too. Even if I don't like to admit it perhaps this is for the best." When he looked down at her again he saw her face twisted in denial and confusion he asked her ,
"Who protects you from danger Amara?"
"You do Tom!" she answered.
"Exactly, but who's supposed to protect you from me!" his expression was dark now, "Maybe I'll see you again or maybe I won't, it doesn't matter; you were always going to leave me once you realised what I really am. Its just now it's early than we originally planned."
"I don't want to leave you Tom!"
"No, of course you don't, you never were as selfish as me. I hope you enjoy your new life, Amara, I really do. It's only what you should've had from the start." He removed his arms from around her and walked off without saying another word.

Mrs Cole, still behind the door, then finally understood why the small girl didn't want Mr and Mrs Lucas to take her away from the shabby orphanage and enter her into the lavish lifestyle of an aristocrat. She understood more now than perhaps ever, in the concept of soulmates and she could determine that Tom Riddle and the now Amara Lucas were most definitely soulmates.
