When Baltimore lawyer Rainbow Fitzhugh returns to her hometown of Potts Landing, a colonial town on Maryland's Eastern shore, she expects to spend a few days at her mother's bed and breakfast relaxing and recharging after her fiance dumped her for his pregnant mistress. Instead, she finds the town in an uproar over a proposed housing development that will raze the old Monroe Farm and, if Rain doesn't step in, possibly Heath House Inn, the home where she grew up. As she grapples with ways to save her mother's inn, Rain runs into an old law school classmate, Sam Root, who's running Save Our Historic Inns, and who wants to join forces to push the developers out of town. Still heartsick, Rain tries to ignore the growing attraction to Sam, but when she finds him in one of the town's boatyards, working on an old log canoe, she finds she's falling for him. Meanwhile, the county zoning commissioner, Jackson Manley, has cozied up to the developers and wants nothing more than to be rid of both Rain and Sam. Can the town come together to protect its heritage while also ensuring its economic survival--and will Rain ever be able to trust again?

In 1600s Virginia, a small colonial village sprang up unceremoniously on the sacred burial grounds of the Native American people it was taken from, the Nottoway. Now, an ancient evil has been awakened in the form of Elementals known as The Bird People and it is suspected that the Nottoway Tribe has cursed the ground in revenge for being encroached upon by colonial settlers. After failed crops, still births, deaths, burnt homes and facing starvation, superstitions run rampant and the townspeople do the only thing they can think of in the late 1600s to appease these angry and destructive spirits. Give them an offering. It is quietly decided by the elders of the community, in an effort to keep these spirits of the bird people at bay, that every woman should give up her first born infant daughter to them. One such young mother cannot bear this resolution much less imagine giving up her only child. In order to keep her only child, a daughter, she makes a baby out of straw and gives that instead, bringing chaos to their puritan village. A cursed girl. The man who loves her. A questionable death. Native American Lore. Elemental Guardians. A village built on sacred burial grounds. #1 in POTC - March 2017 This is a story about a girl, who falls in love with a horrible man. Can her sweet nature turn his cold heart into falling in love with her in turn? The two of them go through death, heartbreak, and other trials. Will love conquer all? ------- This is an old old story of mine that had originally published but took it down about a year ago. I have decided to put it back up so my readers (new and old) can enjoy the story once again. I will not be editing it (I know it needs work but it's staying as it is for old times sake) I hope you guys enjoy rereading it again!
