Jane Carter’s newest thing is she hates men. After waiting for her father to come to her 9th grade play, The Wizard of Oz, that he PROMISED to come to. He instead went to his friends house, had too much to drink, and died. Her mother didn’t pick up her phone for two weeks being on a business trip in India. Jane never really trusted adults anyways. She just puts her hard shell on while her mom is home for a brief three weeks, for the funeral, before returning to India leaving Jane for the summer. Jane feels abandoned, but that’s no new feeling to her. She lives through the first few weeks, having her best friend Lanie help her through it. But Jane’s hate for men doesn’t change. Jane either averts her eyes from any male walking by, or stares at them with an intense hatred. “All men just betray women,” She often tells herself. But can things change Jane meets the easy-going and kind Alex? Can Jane finally get over her grudge and loosen up and let go of the past?
