Duck. Pivot. Parry.
	Shit!
There's a sharp sound of scratching metal as my cutlass is tugged out of my grip, and I watch helplessly as it goes skidding across the deck.
A cheer goes up behind me as a heeled boot catches in my knee and I flail and fall back onto the deck.
	Ow.
I try to crawl away, but there's a mast in my way, and I just get myself pinned against it. There's a gleam off my pursuer's blade as the tip comes to rest delicately on my throat. I raise my hands slowly.
There are yells above us both on the quarterdeck and on the forecastle, egging her on. She grins down at me with an infuriating cock of her head. "Any last words?"

In a world dominated by werewolves, Odette leads a simple, human life until what was supposed to be the best day of her life, her wedding day, takes a nightmarish turn. Luca, a powerful world-leader and Alpha, claims her as his mate, which forces her into a desperate fight for her freedom. Now on the run, Odette encounters challenges that will test her wit and strength. Will she surrender to the relentless pursuit, or fight back? ~~~ I round the corner to see a group of freakishly-tall and handsome men. There were three men in the group, one instantly stood out to me even with his back toward me. He had deep black hair and I could tell strong lean muscles were hidden beneath his button-up shirt. I falter in my steps a bit, something in my mind telling me to go another way, to ask someone else for help with directions. But I keep walking closer. Something else within me tells me it will be okay. As I get closer, the two men who were facing my direction look towards me and I stop, keeping a safe distance. Hopefully they are able to help me, and not turn me away just because I'm a human. "Hi, um, could you tell me where the front desk is?" The man whose back was facing towards me stiffened. "I think I'm a little..." The man turned toward me so quickly it made my heartbeat waver. His deep blue eyes pierced into my brown ones and called out to me. His jawline was chiseled to perfection, lips parted slightly in awe. Every feature of his face was meticulously handcrafted by God. I never thought I could find a wolf so elegant. He was...beautiful. Something in the air shifted. I could feel it in my bones. "...lost," I finished my sentence after a brief pause. No one answered me. Did I say something wrong? I look between the three of them and see that the two men behind the man who was staring so intently at me were looking between me and him. "Mate."

( rewrite ) Huntingtown was panicking; no one knew where the sirens were coming from. There was no electricity, and there was no way for the storm Sirens to be sounding, yet they were. The entire Town was awake; everyone had a weapon. They had grabbed guns, knives, swords, and bats if they could be wielded and used for self-defense; Renee aimed her rifle at the trees, looking desperately for an explanation. Why would a siren sound? They only sounded when they were in Danger, so where was the Danger? When the predators revealed themselves, that was where the siren noise was coming from. Renee could feel her heart jump into her throat. Her face went pale; they were here. They had found the Town. Terror and panic soon swept Huntingtown; everyone knew what those monsters could do. After all, they conquered the planet and imposed the "choosing." Huntingtown was created hoping that its isolation in a cold climate would keep the Predators away, but it didn't. A voice came over those speakers. A male voice Gruff and laced with a growl. It was almost as if whoever was speaking was annoyed and angry. "Although I have enjoyed seeing your little Town outmaneuver many hunters. I am afraid this is where your little games end. However, I will give you a chance to keep your freedom. A hunt. Your best hunter, Renee Madison, will lead you." Renee felt her blood go cold as she stared wide-eyed at the ship. She was unknowingly dropping her gun at the news. " she will be your leader; she will be my prize. You have a time advantage. Go!" The ship took off, looking for a place to land, all while the news sank into the Town's residence. Renee had known she had fucked up when she fired at one of those predators and hit him. She had proven herself worthy of the hunt. Now she has to face the consequences, and not only her but her entire Town has to. Renee had to win this hunt; the fate of her Town depended on it.

"After you're done with your business on this island. Would you like to maybe- join our crew? For real this time," he gently smiles. "I don't think I will be done before you leave-" you look away, not bearing to look into his piercing eyes anymore. "I can wait!" he interrupts, letting go of your hand as quickly as he took it. "I mean uhh... me and the crew... we can wait for you," he stutters out. "This island seems pretty cool. I wouldn't mind staying here for a few more days." You softly chuckle. "We'll see," you give him a faint smile, your eyes blank. "I mean, who else is supposed to save you when you're halfway beaten to death?" Hearing his halfhearted laugh sent a striking pain through your chest. You swallow hard to keep a sob from escaping your throat as you realize this might be the last time you ever hear it. Tears roll down your cheeks, blurring your vision as you lock eyes with the deep dark eyes you've been dreaming about for the past months. His hand gently cups your face and the familiar warmth tingles your skin as his thumb carefully wipes the tears on your cheek. Without breaking your gaze he leans in closer to whisper. "I don't want to be saved by anybody else, y/n." Ace x fem reader Started September 10th 2024 disclaimers! I do not own the cover art. But you know what, someone has to tell you all this. That how much of a monster you are! Even a monster is better than you!" He smiles, widely. "Sounds like a compliment." "You are unbelievable!" He inhales a deep breath. I know he is angry and trying to maintain his composure. He approached me again as I subconsciously takes a few steps back until my back touches the cold wall. He put his palm on both the sides of my head as I looks up at him. "Hm, unbelievable you say. My love, I must admit that you are unbelievably gorgeous, an angel dropped from heaven and landed in the hands of a devil. But, you should watch that pretty tongue of your sometimes." He whispers in my ear, his breath hitting my ear making my goosebumps erupt in an instant. "Or what? You will cut my tongue out? Just like you do to others who talk back and spits facts about you, at your face?" I says as harshly as I can. As much as I wants to hurt him just by my words, it seems like he doesn't care. He didn't even budge on what I says. Instead. He smirked. "Oh darling, I have better options for your tongue in that case." ~

"Stop messing with me." He threatened through his teeth, his breathing as erratic as mine. I let out a stifled laugh. "Or else?" He inhaled deep through his nose, poked the inside of his cheek, as if he was trying to make a tough decision, all the while keeping such an intense stare on my eyes, it was almost uncomfortable. "I won, so you stop." James' mouth was so close, I could feel his words in mine. "Think again, Jamesie." I raised my left hand to his throat, holding the same dagger I had knocked out of his hand before. In the middle of all the rolling around, I'd managed to catch it. A strike of luck, really. James grunted a labored sigh and inched even further towards me. "You're fucking impossible..." His eyes flicked over to my lips. I felt my stomach tingle. "You're heavy." I complained, my voice a little more than a rasp. His index finger grazed on my jaw. "You can take it." [---] My life was perfectly fine. Adoptive daughter of a millionaire, unofficial leader of a team of private security, friend to many unstable, skilled fighters, free as a little bird to do whatever I wanted - as long as I kept it out of the media's scent. Then along came James Fucking Blackwell to ruin everything. Just because I happened to rescue him during my time as an asset for the US Army, the damn asshole convinced himself I was some sort of angel and wouldn't leave me alone. I hated him. Kinda.
