Everything up until volume 2 episode 7 is the same but in this AU Cinder isn't spotted by Ruby who instead has fun at the party with Penny and decides to get her to join Beacon.

Penny with the help of Ruby was able to convince  her father to let her attend beacon full time with the permission of Ironwood and Ozpin. Due to her late enrolment Penny is forced to stay in team Rwby's dorm. As she grows closer with her friends she grows particularly close with the charismatic team leader. 

Tension builds between the team as Wiess holds resentment towards pennny, a result of her own complicated feelings form Ruby.

P.s. it's important to note that in this au Cardin never stopped bullying Jaune.
