Yamaguchi's mother left the family leaving Yamaguchi and his father. Kageyama's father passed away in a tragic traffic accident. This left Kageyama and his mother. Yamaguchi father and Kageyama's mother meet each other and end up getting married causing Yamaguchi and Kageyama to be step brothers. 

Karasuno grows suspicious of Kageyama and Yamaguchi's closeness and they assumed Kageyama and Yamaguchi were dating. 

Tsukishima goes over to Yamaguchi's more to find Kageyama there and the truth spills out. Tsukishima is now forced to spend time with Kageyama in order to be around his best friend, Yamaguchi.
