Micheal, Vi and Pluto are normal average humans, with a normal average human dose of trauma, for one reason or another their friend group disbanded, all stringing from the mysterious Ebott Incident, that occurred only a few months after the reemergence of monsters.
Something weird is going on in their world, skeletons of all sorts just coming and going, many surface dwellers blame it on the expanse of the underground, but skeptics believe this world has become over-run with travelers, from all sorts of alternate worlds.
Through a series of hapless run-ins, Micheal ends up with four skeletal roommates with bad attitudes and maybe a bit more than the evil on the surface. Nightmare, Horror, Dust and Killer were looking for a home and who was Micheal to deny? He surely didn't want to be unkind.
Vi was initially annoyed with the three they considered 'Care Bears' three skeletons that cared a bit too much for their mental health, later on meeting Error, someone they wanted to be better for, Vi might've fallen for the four's words, but they have a lot of hurt inside them, how could they ever be good enough for Dream, Blue, Ink, and Error? Vi would have to be patient with themselves for once.
Pluto was unlucky. It was unlucky that he ran into Fell, it was unlucky that he got himself a job at Ebott cities psych ward, where he happened to meet quite the plethora of skeletons and more only kept on coming, gaining Fell as a roommate and Classic, Sci, and Outer as neighbors, Pluto felt maybe he could form attachments again. Maybe with some hard work and determination, he could turn his luck around.
