Percy is the only one who remembers the dark boy who sat in the corner table during lunch. The only one who noticed he was gone the rest of the school year. The only one who wished he didn't leave. Percy never really talked to Nico di Angelo but he knew what he was like: punk, goth, dark, quiet... and very very hot. He always wanted to talk to him but never muscled up the courage. But when Nico comes back after being gone for two whole years, Percy thinks it's Fate giving him another chance at a friendship and- hopefully- love.

He had made a promise to himself to never be so stupid again to fall in love. But as Nico and Percy become closer, Nico finds that the complete opposite has happened: he's fallen deeper. Everything is going great for a while. But just like it always is for demigods, nothing good ever lasts. The death of Nico's first and closest friend Jason Grace puts a sudden end to the sunshine that currently brightens Nico's life for once. His death triggers a lot of things for him, and shines light on a lot of his unresolved trauma. Will Nico be able to make it through this without his mental stability completely breaking once and for all? Will Nico be able to let people in enough to help him get through it? And what about the mysterious dreams that Nico keeps having of his mom? And who really is this little girl that knows nothing about her past? In this sequel to Out of the Shadows, Nico sees familiar faces and revisits past places, but at least this time he has Will along for the ride.
