Madelyn Vivienne Alarie is a young orphan with an undying passion for art. Her whole life she has found her sanctuary amidst colors and paintbrushes. It's become her home, the place she goes to escape the nightmare of her past. Maddie always believed that Charlotte, the person who is like the mother she never had would never let her go. Suddenly, she is being pushed into a universe where nothing is quite how she expected and she needs to find her happiness again.

James Andres Alexander is a Canadian boy with an unique way with words. Ever since he was a little boy all he did was read and when he couldn't read he wrote. Literature was his life sand with a life where home was alcohol and death, James learned that there is no better place to hide other than words. When given the opportunity to run farther than he needed to, James settles in New York, where he discovers exactly why New York, is the city of broken dreams.

He used words to ward against his pain and she used art to fight hers, but maybe now they can use each other to glue themselves back together.
