Seven years ago, Fayore Dumont was banished from the adopted city she called home for wielding magic she didn't know she had. In her exile, she was forced to leave behind the only person she ever cared about, and the only person who ever cared about her: Francesca. 

Now that her sentence is up, Fayore has returned to the city to find Franc. But the minute she steps off the ship, she is trailed by henchmen who serve the mysterious Lady of Third Manor, who is intent on speaking with Fayore whether Fayore wants to or not.

Mistrustful of anyone within the governing families, Fayore knows she will need to find a new home somewhere far away, but she's not leaving without Franc. There's just two problems: Franc seems to have disappeared and the magic that Fayore was banished for is beginning to return.
