In the Caribbean, dark magic and witchcraft are talked about in whispers. While many don't believe the whispers, all fear it. On her 16th birthday, Calypso learns the family secret. The women are all Obeah's Daughters. They are all witches. 

Calypso's grandmother, the cold and strict matriarch of the family, needs to teach Calypso everything about their past and how to be a witch. The training is physically and mentally draining, only made more difficult by the fact that Calypso is not a pure-blood.
