Everypony strives for perfection, and the current de-Lis matriarch has it in abundance.

As an aristocrat, Fleur has everything anypony would ever want: money, stability and a wonderful family. Outside of basic court duties and mandatory meetings with other members of the nobility, her life is incredibly easy when viewed from the eyes of an outsider. Yet, as the time to renew her marriage vows draws closer, Fleur begins to feel existential disdain. A sense of dread fills her soul, and a melancholy settles over her-- not that anypony would know; after all, a vow-renewal is quite a stressful thing to plan.

She has never loved her husband, that much has always been clear. They both know why. At least they're friendly to each other. They have a child. Vows should be simple.

When Rarity comes to visit to help Fleur tailor her wedding dress, things come to a head as she realizes where her turmoil really lies.

Medieval England - Year 1450: Eleanor was a poor shopkeeper's daughter whose only hope for a better life for herself and her family was to marry well. When she caught the eye of Thomas Fletcher, a royal courtier of noble blood, her family thought he was the answer to all their problems. Eleanor thought he was unattractive and rude, but she didn't have any better options as a poor commoner so she accepted his proposal. They just had to somehow convince King Henry that she was a suitable bride for Thomas so he would approve of their union, because marrying Thomas meant that she would join Henry's inner circle as a courtier. At just twenty three years old Henry had to take over as the King of England when his father passed away unexpectedly. On his first day presiding over the royal court, he was faced with a tough decision, should he approve Thomas' marriage to Eleanor, a commoner that he was almost certain was unfit to join his Royal Court? He decided the only fair way to decide was to have her stay at his castle for a week as his guest so he could see for himself if she had what it took to withstand the pressure of the life of a royal courtier. What King Henry didn't count on was the feelings that started to grow for that commoner throughout the week. She was already betrothed to someone else and even if she wasn't, a King could never marry a commoner. But he also couldn't ignore the growing need he felt inside to be with her, even if it would throw his country into a civil war and turn both of their lives upside down. He knew some things were worth fighting for. Finn has an honourable position; personal servant to the monarch of Cafi, a small country off the coast of France. He also has not-so-honourable a position; a man in love with another man, in the early 1800s. Oliver is being forced towards marriage, and Finn is being forced towards accepting his love is unrequited. As France begins to fall into another revolution, the world begins unravelling around them. Oliver has to fight to maintain the democracy he established, and Finn must cope with the reawakening of his less-than-ideal past as a con artist in the search for his long-lost brother. The two must learn who to trust and who not to trust as they begin to know each other more deeply than they every thought they could. Content Warnings Applicable to This Story: This book is set in the early 1800s, and I don't want to avoid talking about the horrendous things that happened to people of colour then. It will talk about slavery, but from a firm anti-slavery perspective, never glorifying or making excuses for it. Cafi itself is a fictional country and while I absolutely believe they would have had slave trade too (because most places did and I don't want to pretend they didn't), I want the book to include Oliver's fight to abolish slavery in his country. Otherwise, there may be previous mentions of abuse, but it will be extremely mild, nothing graphic, and the chapter itself will pre-warn you. Oliver's relationship with his family can be problematic at times. Please take care of yourself during any chapters that may be triggering for you.

33 parts Complete Mature

Cordelia, who was already beyond the marriageable age, quickly agreed upon the arrival of a marriage proposal from one of the most influential and well-known noblemen. She wedded Leon expecting a pleasant married life, only to be greeted with cracks and mishaps. A beautiful woman who is only a noble by name And a dashing man who is a noble with power. Not long after their wedding, her bewitching yet indifferent and cold husband gave her a contract and declared an agreement. "We are forbidden from meddling with each other's affairs. Do not expect love in this marriage." "And within two years, if you fail to birth an heir, we will have a divorce." Each word was vividly engraved in her mind as she obediently did as she was told, fulfilling her duties as his wife throughout the course of their marriage. However, as the said year approaches without an heir, Cordelia slowly prepared herself to sign the divorce papers and leave. But why is it that Leon, who had treated her badly from the very beginning, was suddenly desperate to make her stay?
