"May the stories spin, may the thread grow longer, and may the future doubt the past with the same vigor she feared the future" The world had always treated Disa like she was beauty breathed into flesh and blood. Previously immortality allowed her to maintain that status, but now time is threatening her existence. For a year she has been on earth waiting for her husband to change his mind or her mother to want her back. But as time drags on, she decides to spite them in the only way that will; by fulfilling the prophesy and cast them off into oblivion with it. She had always been destined for power so when the southern conquer king closes in, she knows what she has to do. But with the southern tides comes not only her husband to be but also their gods. One with wicked storm gray eyes and a glinting silver scar on his jaw who tricked her immortality from her and who is now willing to strike another deal. A century later every belly rumbles as they float past on the street and Lenjas father has a family to care for. Ten children, ten hollow pairs of eyes, and eight more weeks until spring. Up on the mountain, the immortal queen reigns behind her silver mask, more myth than person. Young Lenjas' life is traded for a drawstring purse of gold and she gets thrust into the odd world of court. With gaping holes in the history books questions rise and when Lenja is not turned into a servant as was the deal but educated like a lady, anxiety rises. She must find out why the queen paid to have her there and why her friends at court are sneaking out in the night to cry behind gilded doors.
