Talia Nygel has lived an unlucky life. Maybe unlucky doesn't even begin to cover it, but it is easiest left at that. Regardless of how you put it, it's a life that led her to the Skybox, which comes as a surprise to exactly no one. Waiting for the day of her execution is one thing she was prepared for, what she wasn't prepared for was being sent to Earth to die with 100 other teenage inmates.

They were going to send 100 delinquents to the ground as an experiment to see whether the level of radiation was survivable or not. In doing so, they managed to sentence almost all of them to an untimely death that was almost inevitable. With the idea of freedom, Hailey knows that she is never safe and that if weaknesses are shown, someone will use them against her. Will she be able to overcome her emotional and mental walls, even if it means that she'd be vulnerable? Being on the ground will change Hailey in ways that the people on the ark would never expect.
