"I was conceived during a one night stand." 6 months after the Battle of New York, Tony Stark has spent all his rime building dozens of new powered suits, trinkets and gadgets, mostly for Emma Stark, because he is paranoid that she'd be kidnapped again. It was clear that the events of New York had left Tony with severe PTSD and anxiety, but the events didn't effect Emma as much anymore because she had Pepper Potts to help her. But it seemed that no matter how much she helped him, Pepper wasn't able to get through to Tony. Not helping their problems, a new threat came to be; a powerful terrorist leader named the Mandarin has been responsible for multiple bombings. Tony fears that Pepper might leave him and take Emma with her because she's had enough, especially when she gets visited by an old interest, Killian. After Happy Hogan was severely injured by one of the bombings, an angry Tony gave a threatening promise to Mandarin on the news, which later caused a terrorist attack on Tony's own house, with Pepper and Emma inside.
