I'm running. That seems to be what I'm always doing now. My breathing is labored but I know I can't quit yet. I tell myself, "Just one more turn," but it's not true. I'll never leave this evil place. Not with who's running it. I turn a corner but then skid to a stop.

Fifty feet ahead is a weeping angel. I backtrack quickly, because I know if it catches me I won't simply go to the past.

He has ordered them to turn us, their prey, into them. That's how Lucy died.

I manage to make it through five more turns before I see another. This time I just stare at it, deciding where to go.

Before I can make a decision though, I feel a stone arm around my neck.

The snapping of the vertebrae resonates around the two old angels.

And the single new one.

In the beginning, there was death. The darkness flows from hues of purple and orange, the moon rising to kiss the sun's rays one last time as the darkest cloud of night I've ever seen falls over our tiny haven. I catch Will's face from the side of my vision and my heart tightens slightly. The tick of his jaw wouldn't be noticeable for anyone but me. His best friend, his lifeline. A solemn tear forms in my eye as he wipes his face, another tear falling for the family he lost. I love him. Utterly and desperately so, but, there's nothing I can do about that. The ultimate forbidden fruit, if you will. I reach to comfort him and he doesn't respond. I open my mouth to speak and he looks my way, but the gleam in his dark brown eyes hits the moonlight just right and I fall. My voice escapes my throat and I can't do it. I've tried for years to tell him. 10 years, actually. All this time, I hopelessly remained devoted to a ghost who had given the best of himself to a fiery red-head with a sassy personality and the body of a supermodel. For 10 years, I held to the desperate thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd be someone I could count on. Instead, I watched him marry my best friend, smiled as they welcomed their son. Stood, holding that beautiful boy as his mother was in the first round of executions after the beginning of the Revelation. Helped heal Will's wounds in the aftermath. Cried, clutching the tear-stained shirt of my best friend as his son took his last staggering breath in that first harsh winter. The guilt of my emotions crawl through me. My heart twisting in regret, guilt, desperation, and grief. I loved my best friend. She was so much more than that; she was my family. In this dystopian quick read, join a group of people desperate to recapture their freedom and end a tyrant's reign.

"Don't go anywhere alone," My father said "Don't go deep into the woods, for that is where he waits," My father said. I never broke a rule. I was a good girl. But my question always was, what do I do when the monster comes out to play? *** I was blind, so I slowly walk forward, not knowing where he is exactly. But I use my senses. I let this connection pull into a direction. As I slowly walk ,I reach my hand out, "Where are you?" I asked quietly. A big and calloused hand touches my own. From that one touch, electric shocks courses through my body, a strange and warming sensation. I flinched and gasped in fright. The big and strong hand gently grabs mine and softly pulls me forward. His breath makes chills run over my neck as he whispers very quietly with a deep and rough voice, "Here I am." *** If you want this book to make sense to you, I would suggest you read Book 2 of my Blood Moon Pack series, it completed and ready to read. You can still read this as stand alone, however there is more information held in Book 2.

His irises swirled slowly, an enticing pale silver against his stark black lashes. They illuminated slightly, so quick it was gone in a blink. He broke our eye contact, lifting his head straight. A darkly amused expression appeared. It happened so quickly it seemed like a mask appeared. I blinked myself out of my trance, and turned on my heel to see what was at the receiving end of his humor. Augustus stood there. His face contorted into anger as he took in my ruined dress. His hands shook in his fury. "Roman." Augustus nearly snarled the name. "Have you come to join us, little King? The party was just getting started." So his name was Roman, some big secret. I rolled my eyes at the reveal as well as his taunting sentence. "Davina, what is going on here?" Augustus asked, his eyes full of betrayal. I had never seen him so guarded. I could feel his anger through my bones. His words were careful. What was he talking about? My brows furrowed at the insinuation, "What?" A line of smoke floated around my right shoulder and come between Augustus and I. How convenient. I had the desire to swipe it away but didn't. "What can I say, she...seduced me." Roman purred. His voice was a sensual whisper in my left ear. I subconsciously lifted my shoulder and backed away from it. Not only because he had lost his fucking mind, but also because it shot down my spine, caressing my skin. ** This book contains mature content.
