One day after school on his way to his car, he finds Sam Hubert sitting on the ground, his eyes filled with tears. Sam's dad had just died, the man he loved the most, and it was his fault. Sam had came out to his dad, and things went downhill from there. He found him dead on the kitchen floor, laying in his own vomit. Sam helps Alex discover there is a reason to live, besides just not wanting to die. Alex has never felt this feeling before, he finds his mind opening up, and he can feel everything.

He quickly becomes addicted to the girl and once he gets one taste he's done for. He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle.
