Sixteen students of Hopes Peak Academy find themselves trapped in a killing game by a humanoid robot named Zetsubou. None of them know or have any history with each other, and the only memories they have before their imprisonment are them walking inside the school, and a single word. During their killing school life, friends and enemies are made, and despair and discord slowly set in.
