There was a sickness that was sweeping through Oregon (that's where the story takes place) that's putting Will's father in a difficult place as a doctor. Lately, Will has been a few minutes late to class, because he was helping his dad down at the hospital. The rules had been infinitely changed, because the hospital needed sensible help and a lot of it; and Will was perfect for the job. And then Nico showed up with his sister in his arms.
