The Third Affliction

*this is only a small section of my story and the chapter isn't finished, let me know if i should further sink into this world i've created!*

Sixteen year old Ambrose and his twin sister, Amarantha, live in a world where their knowledge against the world is so little. They have thousands of questions with no answers to fill the holes. For the past, almost six hundred years, the Earth has caused natural disasters to occur every four months. The calamities rotate in a cycle, starting with raging fires, then water storms, and ending with the finale, explosions. Society knows those moments to be the Days of Affliction, because they cause great amounts of pain and suffering. The Days of Affliction each year take place on the first day of three out of twelve months; April, August, and December. Each Affliction lasts 30 days, leaving three months action free-for the most part-before the following disaster strikes. This year, 2999-the last moments of the millennium-Ambrose is expecting a usual, Third Affliction to occur on December 1st. But, in addition to his already-little knowledge, what's to come will only lead him to question life even further, lessening his knowledge, befuddling his mind and finally bringing him so close to the edge.
