Valerie Harper is a 19 year old waitress living in the small town of Kaleville on her own. Like any other young adult living on their own, Valerie is just trying to survive. However, it's very difficult for her to live her life. She's been ridiculed for being a young black woman in her community, which consists of mostly caucasian people. To top that off, a list of unfortunate events have been happening. Valerie has nowhere to turn and hopes for nothing but the worst. She believes she's been cursed with bad luck until things turn around. She meets Ray Philips, a red-neck mechanic who unexpectedly becomes the light at the end of the tunnel for Valerie. The sky is black, sun as red as blood, stars brighter then gem stones and the clouds scarlet red; she swears that she is in a cave. As she's walking downtown, she sees people in all sorts of different attire; some are dressed as though they just came from the revolutionary war, others in sweats and sweatpants. There's a sleek all black limousine driving down fifth avenue. The flags on the side are odd, they are mustangs but made out of skeleton and the background is blood red. The license plate reads yours truly and the windows are tinted all black. Everyone seems to avoid the vehicle and everyone seems just a little too happy.
