Years ago, a terrible Curse fell upon the Earth from vengeful spirits of the past. From the ashes of ruin, a new class of elites, the Upper, rose to power across the globe. As the Curse slowly spread across the human population, the Upper constructed secured cities to keep out the Curse and its spreaders. Everyone who could not make it behind the walls of the cities were left to live in what the Upper hated most: Freedom. 

Saoirse Freedman was told that she was lucky and that she should be thankful. She was born in a village far away from any city and free to live as she choose. However, she soon learned that one can only be truly thankful for something one they lost it.
