Look into the eyes of teenagers as they fight their way through a racist society. This story leads it's readers to question, wonder, and see the difference of life for people If segregation and the new race war hadn't ended? No one won nor lost. But the controversy still continued as more and more people are resorting back to truly treating those darker as less than. The story takes a turn to bring it's audience in a modern society that digs into the thoughts of black teens living through an era that hates their freedom, and white teens who feel different than the norm remaining silent in fear of the response of the world. Jake and his many other friends enter inside the life of what it means to be black in their state's only integrated school. He is soon met by a girl who seems to be one of only people in the world who agrees for their freedom. Their friendship brings controversy throughout the school until the "problem" is quickly solved leading Jake and his friends to run into hiding, fearing for their freedom, and eventually there lives. The people they meet along the way allow them all to find out who they are, who they want to be, and reveals what they wish they had.

She meets a guy--probably the most popular guy in school (and hey, why not make him British while we're at it?). He's most likely very handsome and just as rich, and magically seems to understand her. It feels like they've known each other forever when in fact they've actually just met. They're seniors in high school but because of the war, they've been separated on government orders. No one is allowed outside because the government is making people to believe its toxic. They believe that if the parents believe it, the kids will too. But it doesn't stop Alex. She and her best friends decide that they are going to try and stop this. But how? They have no clue.
