Even from here, I can see the cruel smile that grows across Prince Atreus's face. "You have purple eyes, my dear." He licks his lips, as if I'm a tasty treat he just caught for dinner. "You will marry me."

In Oculi, your life is determined by your eye color. Those born with brown eyes are condemned to a life of inferiority and poverty. Those born with colored eyes or "special eyes" each have a special ability that lifts them to excellency where they receive every luxury in the king's city.
Colored-eyed infants are taken from mothers to be lifted to excellency, while brown-eyed infants are thrown into the streets to die.
For sixteen years, Calluna has lived in seclusion, her father firmly keeping her away from the palace and the horrors he says he's witnessed there.
Calluna was born with purple eyes, an eye color is never seen before.	
When Calluna is unexpectedly thrust into the king's world, she is ignorant and naive to the world outside her father's farm. She does not know the world of the colored eyes. The special abilities each of them holds, how their eye color determines what power they possess. 
In the palace, she becomes a  target because of the unique purple color of her eyes. She receives extremely special attention from the cruel and merciless Prince Atreus. He intends to force her into marriage.
With colored eyes comes power, horrifying, terrible power. With uncertainty over who is her friend and who is her enemy, Calluna must find out how to control her power and fight against the cruelty her parents tried so hard to keep her from.
