The first and last known person to ever “cheat” Death lived about 3000 years ago. The last actual person to have escaped Death? My brother. About five minutes ago. It wouldn't have been the first time, either. But oddly enough, that is not the reason I'm sharing this story. I'm sharing it because somebody other than Death found out about my brother's special “ability”. Death had given my brother and I one rule, and one rule alone: let no one know of my brother's ability to "soul-recycle". But somehow, that rule was broken. We don't know how, we don't know why, but it comes with a severe consequence – that either my brother, or the intruder must die. The thing is, Death has chosen me to decide who must leave the world behind. But it's an unbearable – impossible – choice. Because how am I to choose between my own brother...and my other half?

The Misvan Gatu: Intentions de LeahMichaels
20 partes Concluida
Humanity have always questioned their mortality. The world; riddled with disease and crime, each day gifted with a sense of dread. "I'm getting older." Humans have evolved, fought wars, overcome the impossible and survived as a species, until now. Now that they question death and what comes after. Among the humans are a group of people, hiding in plain sight. Those that inexplicably are able to connect with their souls on an entirely different level to most. They have no name, hidden purely by disbelief, in a society that doubts those that are different. How do you name something that you refuse to acknowledge exists? The Misvan Gatu is an underground government controlled by an unknown force. It is their mission to find a cure for the death of a soul, not caring who they may destroy in the process. Misguided and twisted by an evil unknown they are driven by the need to know more about the afterlife. Breaking down barriers and finding answers to questions best left unasked. If the soul could be transferred then that human life could continue, couldn't it? And if there was a way of stopping death and harnessing the power of the human soul what else could we accomplish? This is where faith and science began to work together. Already you must understand that the two are not compatible? Book one in a trilogy of short novellas. This will be entered into the #youngwritersprize competition. Save your vote for the first chapter on the 17th of August. Any votes on other chapters would be appreciated now. I will respond to every comment, I really appreciate any support that my lovely readers can give me. This is part one, in a trilogy of short novellas.

My heart was pounding in my chest so hard that I thought it was going to rip out any minute now as I stared back at the man I thought I had once loved with all my heart. Pain burst through me. He still looked the same except his gorgeous blue eyes that once held a mischief glint in them now were dark and empty. "Jordan...Jordan Raine," Jason breathed, "all these years I've been searching for you and now here you are..." I gulped and tightened my grip on Ariel's small hand as he took in my features and then his eyes slowly travelled down to the little girl who was eating her ice-cream as if nothing was wrong. I needed to get out of here before this volcano erupts. "Look it was nice seeing you again Jason, but I've got somewhere to be-" I was cut off as arms wrapped around my waist and I was pulled back into a hard chest, "Baby, there is no chance I am letting you go this time, I've searched too hard and long for you." Jordan Raine's life was as normal as any university student's life could get until a man with blue piercing eyes comes waltzing into her life or more like classroom and turns her average life into a screaming roller coaster ride and then all of a sudden the rails are breaking and she's flying off head first into the ground. They say love only happens once but what if the first time was because fate was being a moody bitch on her period? Warning: Rated R for language and sexual content. Alchemy has always been a key to understanding the universe, yet it has often been dismissed as mere superstition. The truth seared through my veins like scorching heat, igniting every cell of my being with a searing, uncompromising judgment. I sacrificed everything-my strength and sense of identity-chasing after an overwhelming purpose. Duty and conviction waged a war against a primal yearning for freedom, unleashing a maelstrom of emotions that threatened to tear me apart. This internal hell fueled an insatiable, maddening lust for vengeance, obliterating my moral compass and propelling me toward utter destruction. Only when I made a final decision did the fundamental principles of morality seem to slip through my fingers like grains of sand. Each savage blow against the oppressive system left me questioning: am I a righteous crusader, or a monster consumed by hatred? The poisonous doubt gnawed at my mind, suffocating my thoughts with insidious whispers. Yet, I found the strength to silence them. With fierce determination burning in my veins, I vowed to break free from the chains of oppression or die trying. Fear would not hold me captive any longer. As I teetered on the edge of life and death, I couldn't help but wonder: would I emerge victorious or succumb to the relentless wheels of fate? The answer lies shrouded in the mists of an uncertain future, but one thing is irrefutable: win or lose, every decision will ignite an inferno of change. This cataclysmic revolution will raze the old world and herald the birth of a new era. In this cosmic roulette, even the most steadfast warriors can turn to dust in the blink of an eye. Therefore, are you willing to participate? Given that there always was, is, and will be war. Hope stands stronger than fear, yet anything is possible when darkness lingers. It is the deflection of accountability and guilt. Yet when all seems lost, trust that the butterfly knows where the water flows.

The Fifth Rule de adiorexes

If you asked anyone, they'd say my brother and I were close the kind of siblings who knew each other's moods before a word was even spoken. We weren't perfect, but we had our system. Five rules. That's how we survived growing up together. Rule 1: Never lie to each other. Rule 2: Always have each other's backs. Rule 3: Ask before borrowing anything. Rule 4: Don't embarrass each other in front of friends. Rule 5: Never.... ever....date each other's best friend. And for the longest time, those rules worked. They kept us balanced. Until he came along. Ethan. My brother's best friend. The boy with the calm eyes and the smile that could turn a bad day around. He'd been around for years, but I'd never really seen him. Not like this. I don't know when things changed. Maybe it was the way he started listening when I talked, or how he laughed a little differently when it was just us. Maybe it was the way my heart forgot all five rules whenever he looked at me. My name's Elena, by the way. I'm the one who was supposed to know better ... the one who swore she'd never cross that line. But the thing about rules is... they only work until something OR someone makes you want to break them. And the night everything changed, it wasn't supposed to mean anything. Just a conversation. Just a moment. Except now, I can't stop thinking about it. About him. About the one rule I can't seem to keep. My brother doesn't know. Not yet. But when he does... everything will change.
