How I got inspired to write Miko: The superhero I created is inspired by the Japanese religion Shintoism and by Japanese mythology centered around gods (in Japan they are referred to as Kami), demons, and spirits. I've always been interested in mythology from other countries and thought it would be interesting to write about Japanese culture. I went to an international school in Europe and was able to interact with a lot of different people from all over the world. One of my closest friends who I'm still in contact with is Japanese and is currently visiting family in Japan. I've always loved the idea of visiting Japan and experiencing different cultures. This was the driving force along with the idea of writing about a female superhero that wouldn't be sexualized or be driven due to a love interest. There isn't a lot of Asian superhero's that are represented in comics and that niche gets even smaller when you're looking for a female superhero of Asian descent. I created my superhero to be a strong independent female role model towards young girls. I was influenced by Japanese Shinto mythology. Cause you don't have to explain in-depth how the character got the superpowers. Just a short explanation on why they were blessed then done! The heroine is a Miko, which is Japanese for the priestess. Is this going to be well written? Probably not. I'm not an amazing writer and I tend to go all over the place when writing things. Is this worth reading? I hope so. I wanted to write something different so I did. If some people like the idea and want to write more about it or something I'm perfectly fine with it. I like the idea of inspiring other people with my ideas. I see a mistake is it ok to point it out? PLEASE DO! If you point out a mistake I'll create a new chapter that implements the corrections.
