As Ruth and her older sister Marie begin to dwindle down on the last of their money reserves, Ruth searches for ways to get some cash in order to keep their apartment. When an auction featuring priceless works of art roles into New Orleans, Ruth finds the opportunity she has been looking for to save both her sister and self. Finding that pickpocketing doesn't quite pay all the bills, she starts to plan the heist of a lifetime. At the same time a new boy comes crashing into Ruth's life (literally), challenging her to juggle both her home life, the crush she is harboring, as well as her thieving ways. Learning that Ethan might just be the person she has been looking for, Ruth's life soon becomes inexplicably complicated.
