The ghosts we hide (Winter Soldier x OC)

"I didn't mean to hurt you. I could never hurt you." He whispers into my neck.

I stroke the back of his head with careful fingers, chin resting lightly atop his skull.

"I know." I soothe, pulling him closer still.

Sobs escape from his chest, rattling his shoulders in an unsteady rhythm.

In that moment, my heart breaks for him and all the terrible things this life has done. It breaks for the guilt and the ghosts swimming in his mind, the person he was never allowed to become.

It's not fair.

Nyx Nelson, or agent 184, is one of Hydra's best assets - not that she wants to be.

With her parents murdered in front of her very eyes at age five, she's been tortured and experimented on for fourteen years.

Suddenly her miserable life is turned upside down when the Avengers try to capture her, needing the information she can supply on a set of stolen blueprints for America's next weapon of mass destruction.

Offered the deal of a lifetime by Tony Stark, she agrees.

But Nyx's emotions are in for an even bigger surprise when she runs into the ghost that has been haunting her dreams for the past five years - The Winter Soldier.

At first she does everything she can to avoid the super soldier, who brings back memories she has shut out for years. However, their relationship starts to change as they both realise there is more to the other than meets the eye, with more in common than they thought.

Forced to work together in a bid to take down Hydra once and for all, can the two also help each other heal from their shared trauma?

Or will their ghosts end up consuming them?

The plot, however, is mine though it is inspired by the MCU films.
